While I write a little “love story” about each month – I feel like it’s even more appropriate than ever in review of a month that is all about celebrating love!
In my little piece of the world, February has been a month full of love, laughter, and bipolar weather (one day it was 70 degrees and the next day it was a blizzard). If you’ve never spent any time in Oklahoma, you wouldn’t know this about my beloved state, but truly it should be institutionalized most days for its weather/natural disaster mood swings. It wasn’t long ago that we had deadly tornadoes one day, and then a 5 point earthquake a few days later. Lovely, I tell you.
But back to February… here are the things I loved most
In the kitchen:
-Treating my sweetie to these old-fashioned sour cream & maple glazed donuts in honor of V-day, and then after returning from a weekend trip, finding an entire plate of these stashed in the fridge… homemade by my handsome man himself. We ain’t afraid to tell it folks, the way to our hearts is through our stomachs.
-Harboring a major chocolate addiction (which the above strawberries didn’t help with) and finding little ways to sneak it into my diet… like these dark chocolate maple truffles. Love that these are a way to get your chocolate fix without all the unnecessary processed sugar!
-Working on new meal plans to fit more Vitamin K2 in my diet… lots of butter, liver, and cheese!
On the web/blogosphere:
-Hoping I run out of dish detergent soon so I can make some of this wicked homemade dish-washer detergent by Thank Your Body. Love!
-Reading another one of Ariana’s many adventures in the UK on her blog.
-Bookmarking this post by Mommypotamus on natural easter egg dyes for a fun weekend project with some kiddos I love!
-Getting some good belly laughs in at another blogisode of Clara Conversations – a funny look back at some of the hilarious things that Clara, daughter of the famed (and equally hilarious) Young House Loves bloggers Sherry & Jon, says from day to day: “Grammy: Where did you get those pretty eyes? Clara: From my face.”
-Sharing a communal love of ethnic food with all of you on HTG’s facebook page!
With friends/family:
-Planning a body butter making party with a dear friend. Love crafty projects that save me money and nourish my dry, winter skin!
-Enjoying lovely girl chat at our community group’s Super Bowl (for which I was elected to bring the healthy food options… enter this rainbow chopped salad).
-Jetting to SoCal for the weekend to surprise my best friend (I wish I would have filmed her reaction… priceless!) before her bridal shower. Oh, and being held aside by security in the airport on the way there for 20+ minutes because they thought my herbal fertility tea was weed… along with them being very suspicious of my homemade deodorant. Really?
-Getting in touch with my inner Broadway fanatic with a little bit of Smash, and discovering that one of my former crushes of a Grey’s Anatomy character, Eli (David Sunjata), has made an appearance…and then remembering my all-too-hilarious insistence post-surgery last fall that my pre-op male nurse looked just like Eli… to which my husband informed me that based on the aging, slightly overweight man he recalls, I was way off. Yikes. Drugs can do that to you I guess.
-Spending several days sick in bed while my sweet husband nursed me back to help after discovering I have a latent allergy to oranges. Sad news: I’m going to miss my OJ and orangina (sigh). As for looking on the bright side, I discovered the benefits of a very unconventional, natural fever reducer.
What did you love most about February?
